JOB TITLE: Tax Assistant 
LOCATION: Houston, TX
REPORTS TO:  Director of Tax

SCHEDULE:  Monday through Friday: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Occasional weekends or overtime may be required.

COMPENSATION:  Commensurate with experience and skills

 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Scan tax exemptions, licenses, and filings into file management software
  • Assist with the preparation of Excise and Sale/Use Tax filings and amendments
  • Assist with the timely filing and payments of Excise and Sales/Use Tax
  • Assist with the management of renditions, notices, and statements for property tax
  • Assist with the reconciliation of tax filings to the general ledger
  • Verification of tax documentation provided by customers
  • Assist with the management of licenses, exemptions and resale certificates for customers and vendors
  • Work with tax authorities regarding outstanding refunds or notices
  • Maintain various Excel spreadsheets
  • Maintain tax department group e-mails
  • Provide tax rates to sales representatives
  • Assist in answering the tax department phone calls
  • Enter customer exemptions in tax software
  • Contact customers for tax exemption certificates
  • Assist customers with appropriate tax forms and applications
  • Correspond with vendors to provide tax licenses and exemptions
  • Work with other departments to resolve tax related invoicing issues
  • Other tasks as assigned by manager
BASIC REQUIREMENTS 
  • Must be local (live within 60 miles)
  • Self-motivation
  • Excellent typing skills
  • Professional telephone etiquette
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in a fast paced team environment
 
PREFERRED 
  • SAP Experience
  • Motor Fuel Excise Tax experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Sales Tax Experience
